Project/Program Overview

General Dynamics Missions Systems – Canada (GDMS-C) is looking for a System Analyst to join the BOWMAN system analyst team in Calgary, to support ongoing future capability development and to provide support to the team in the UK. BOWMAN is the tactical communications system integrating digital voice and data technology to provide secure radio, telephone, intercom and tactical internet services in a modular and fully integrated system. This program converted over 18000 platforms, just over 15 years ago. This position follows a Hybrid working model with a mix of home and on-site work.


Job Description

Your role in more detail:

  • Work closely with internal engineering teams, our customer and industry stakeholders to identify gaps and areas of potential improvement within existing capabilities.
  • You will demonstrate initiative to get the right people involved and provide the direction for a solution
  • Work with the Network and Bearers team to support and lead tasks at different stages in the engineering lifecycle to deliver solutions that meet customer needs to a defined quality standard within agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Document the development of system engineering artefacts such as capability descriptions, scope statements, concept of operations and operational use cases
  • Develop broad knowledge of different engineering disciplines and technologies in order to advise from a high level system view or from a more detailed product level
  • You will work as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team, collaborating with internal teams and the customer in order to find common ground.
  • You will bring forward ideas and innovation towards process as part of continuous improvement initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • A university degree or equivalent in Engineering, Applied Science or Computer Science
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or applicable scientific discipline. Previous experience or substantial exposure to Systems Engineering or Systems Architecture is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Requirements Management, Structured Analysis and Modelling.
  • Demonstrated experience in requirements development, and developing solutions against requirements is required.
  • Demonstrated problem identification, troubleshooting and solving which will be used to develop solutions to discovered system issues and capability gaps.
  • Demonstrated initiative and strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Building relationships with internal stakeholders, industry partners, and customer stakeholder.
  • Supporting and presenting at meetings consisting of internal stakeholders, industry partners, and customer stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet commitments and deliver high quality work products.

Ideally you will also have experience in

  • Familiarity with IBM/Rational tools such as DOORS and the Rational Team Concert (RTC).
  • Familiarity with system modelling tools such as Enterprise Architect, ARTiSAN, Rhapsody, or others.
  • Familiarity with Military and Industry standard System Architecture Frameworks such as DNDAF, DoDAF, TOGAF, NAF, etc
  • Familiarity within the domains of IP Networking and RF Communications.

Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
