Job Description

We are currently looking for an Intermediate Software Tester, with experience in SCCM and other software packaging and deployment technologies, to join our Packaging and Deployment Team. The Packaging and Deployment team has a mandate to create, test, and maintain Zero Touch Installations (ZTI), Light Touch Installations (LTI), delivery documentation, and other deliverables.


As a member of the team, you will play a key role in both planning and executing this work.

  • Participate in technical reviews.
  • Assist in planning and estimating future work.
  • Aid efforts to automate the task sequences and reduce turnaround times for development of work products.
  • Work closely with the Packaging development team to define requirements, develop, and review use cases and design.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, with a focus on test artifacts such as test plans and test cases.
  • Troubleshoot issues identified during testing and field exercises.
  • Support Packaging related test events.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvements.
  • Engage with customer representatives, vendors, and other department staff.
  • Mentor and grow the capabilities of other team members.
  • Execute test cases, and coordinate with development team and other stakeholders to assess testing results.
  • Write system problem reports on issues encountered during test execution.
  • Investigate potential methods to automate regression testing.

Basic Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science/Applied Science or related technical/scientific degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in related positions.
  • Experience with configuration and deployment of Microsoft Server OS, Windows OS and VMware with a working understanding of networking.
  • Some scripting experience (ideally with PowerShell).
  • Experience in the investigation, analysis, and resolution of complex system issues, with the ability to understand the interdependencies and interactions between subsystems.
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to describe technical subject material effectively to non-technical audiences
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Assets to have but not required:

  • Experience with Microsoft System Center family of components.
    • System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
    • Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)
  • Experience with tools: Jira, Rational Team Concert, Rational Quality Manager, Ansible, Artifactory, or GitLab.
  • Experience with automated testing on a Windows environment, Dev Ops
  • Familiarity with the International Software Testing Qualification Board course content.
  • Experience with the Land Command Support System (LCSS) systems, equipment, and/or lab configurations.
