Project/Program Overview

In this role you will be working closely with our Operations Test Engineering Specialists. Test Engineering is responsible for the design and implementation of processes for the testing and acceptance of military and harsh service equipment for customers around the world. General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada utilizes the latest in test engineering practices and theories including Design for Testability, Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments to accomplish this responsibility.

 

Based on-site and remotely

This role will be a combination of working remotely and onsite at our Ottawa office. We have a number of measures in place for onsite working – our top priority remains the health and safety of our colleagues.

Job Description

The successful candidate will have strong project management capability, providing leadership and working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams of professionals. This will include defining, developing, deploying and supporting of industry leading Test Strategies and Automated Test Equipment.

 

You will be responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of procedures for the testing and evaluation of production and engineering devices in accordance with applicable product specifications and industry and/or governmental standards. This will include tests to be performed, develop automated processes and tools, compile data and make recommendations for changes required in testing equipment, procedures, manufacturing processes, and product designs.

 

We are looking for a self-starter with great communication skills, and ability to contribute both within a product development team and a manufacturing environment.

 

Typical duties will include:

  • Developing and optimizing the test methods and process execution to facilitate the Manufacturing of quality products at minimum cost.
  • Interacting, planning and communicating with the Design Engineering teams to define and develop optimal component, sub-assembly and unit level test requirements and test strategies.
  • Assisting Engineering and Project teams on new product concepts and development.
  • Drive the collaboration of test strategies between DVT and Production test.
  • Initiate interaction and alignment with the Production and Engineering organizations in order to achieve continuous improvement of product and process capabilities, through root cause and corrective action activities.
  • Defining project schedules in cooperation with Test Engineering Manager/Program Management.
  • Leading the evaluation, recommendation and purchase of test equipment.
  • Supporting existing production test equipment to ensure that all on-going internal and external customer needs are met.
  • Driving the continuous improvement of production test yields, based on the analysis of production data, by making recommendations for alteration to production processes, test methodology or unit design.
  • Troubleshooting Test Engineering hardware/software to resolve operational issues and/or optimize equipment performance.
  • Providing leadership and technical guidance to more junior personnel.

Basic Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5 -10 years relevant experience in a manufacturing Test Engineering role. 
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, planning, organization, problem solving, & customer focus.
  • Proven ability to foster a collaborative team environment, leading and co-ordinating various disciplines (Engineering and Non-Engineering), to project success, through strong relationship buildings skills, effective meetings, and excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in development and implementation of automatic test equipment (ATE) hardware and software.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in Design for Test (DFT) and test strategy planning methodologies and requirements and a proven track record in reducing end-to-end test strategy costs.
  • Knowledge & experience in working with CCA Contract Manufacturers during development and production.
  • Proven track record in effectively interfacing and communicating with management and customers (internal and external) on the progress of projects.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting electronics with various standard equipment.
  • Proficient in software development using one or more of the following languages: CVI, C++, C#, LabVIEW, SQL, TestStand, JTAG, VB.net;
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills;
  • Enthusiastic contributor, willingness to learn new skills, and strong sense of ownership;

Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
