  • Project/Program Overview

    Our Calgary team is currently looking for a System Integration Networking Engineer to join our Bowman product development team. Bowman is the tactical communications system integrating digital voice and data technology to provide secure radio, telephone, intercom, and tactical internet services in a modular and fully integrated system.


    The successful candidate will hold an electrical engineer role and participate in a team based environment to carry out various electrical engineering activities; applying engineering knowledge and techniques to carry out all stages of electrical design definition, requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and verification. You will work closely with a team of highly skilled professionals in a collaborative environment, high team participation and co-operation is required. You will have day-to-day direction from the Electrical Engineering Team Lead (or their designate) and work with other peers assigned to the project to support ongoing future capability development.


    The responsibilities and range of activities may vary, but in general will include:

    • Participates in the detailed software requirement analysis process and prepares requirements documents and specifications.
    • Performs design reviews, unit testing, and integration testing to support program requirements.
    • Identifies, investigates, and responds to defects. Resolves and verifies issues and problem reports.
    • Development of General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada Engineering artifacts including but not limited to specifications, design documents, version descriptions, test plans, test procedures, and test reports.
    • Conducts requirements analysis and design review.
    • Develops test cases that validate system and software level requirements.
    • Executes test cases in a lab environment.
    • Generates Problem Reports.
    • Participates in Integrated Product Teams.
    • Provides input to the Team Lead for IMS Verification and Validation Team on schedule development, progress, and risks.
    • Maintains and improves lab scripts.
    • Performs some design and/or analysis and/or test functions under the mentorship of more senior engineers.
    • Documents his/her analyses, designs, and tests (e.g., schematics, wiring diagrams, tech notes, design documents, test plans, and test reports) in the format prescribed by standard templates.
    • Works closely with the various engineering functions throughout the development cycle for the purposes of component selection, design capture, and analysis.
    • Investigates system problem reports and field incident reports; perform root cause and trend analyses.
    • Provides technical support during higher level integration and qualification testing.
    • Presents of his/her work at design reviews or other types of peer reviews.
    • Designs, implements, and tests fixes for defects/bugs.
    • Some travel may be required to support internal and external customers.


    • Excellent written communication, verbal communication, and time management skills.
    • Experience with technical writing.
    • Able to apply problem solving skills to daily activities.
    • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Positive approach to learning and trying new things.
    • Understanding of Electrical Engineering principles and applying techniques, tools, and knowledge in support of effective engineering design.
    • Excellent understanding of IP Networking and Routing Principles.
    • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision.

    The following knowledge and experience is an asset:

    • Experience with digital and analog circuit design.
    • Knowledge of voice/data networks and Internet Protocols (IP) an asset.
    • Experience supporting System Integration, System Verification, and Systems Engineering teams; participation in integrated team activities.
    • Experience with C Programing and Linux Board Support Package development.
    • Knowledge of and experience with FGPA.
    • Conduct himself/herself professionally in all meetings, activities and when included in customer attended events.

    Experience with the any of the following tools is highly desirable:

    • Mentor Graphic CAD Tools
    • Oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
    • Ixia
    • Wireshark



    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics or related technical/scientific degree.


    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
