  • Project/Program Overview

    We are currently looking for a Product Support Commercial Manager to join our busy manufacturing division in Ottawa. The Commercial Product Support Manager is responsible for the timely execution and administration of the contractual and bid commitments within Product Support. The Commercial Product Support Manager provides leadership, guidance, mentorship and development to the members of the Product Support Commercial team, as well as, investigate, develop, and improve processes.


    • Manage customer contracts balancing achievement of the operating plan relating to revenue and cash while maintaining customer satisfaction and providing value to the business.
    • Protect General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada's interests through appropriate contract terms and conditions and Non-Disclosure Agreements as appropriate.
    • Assure compliance with contractual obligations for price, delivery, quality, and performance.
    • Meet operating goals for quotations, invoicing, accounts receivable, and turn-around-times through negotiation results, contracts management, and customer relationships.
    • Assure compliance with applicable procedures, regulations, and legal requirements including Canadian Standard Acquisition Clauses and Conditions (SAAC), United States Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARs), and Defense FAR Supplement (DFARs), United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (MoD) Defense Standards (DEFSTANS), and working with the legal department in support of International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) activities.
    • Critically analyze and advise on customer contractual obligations and requirements and ensure vendor agreements de-risk General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada exposure.
    • Report items of interest, risk, business, and market strategy to management and provide recommendations for appropriate action as necessary.
    • Represent General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada, both internally and with the customers/vendors in all assigned matters with a high level of competence, professionalism, integrity, and credibility.
    • Support the preparation, implementation, and aid in achievement of an accurate repairs-forecast for all product support customers or product base.
    • Ensure that customer-related transactions are conducted with appropriate levels of adequate control, review, and approval as required by company procedure and/or applicable regulation or law.



    • Mentor all members of staff. Includes performing required performance evaluations and day-to-day management.
    • Develop and coach team members on their specific skills that require development, cross-sharing best practices, and ultimately building a stronger team.
    • Formalize training plans tailored for each team member’s needs and suitable for the business and strategic direction of product support.
    • Ensure succession plans are in place for all team members, including yourself.

    Continuous Improvement:

    • Drive improvement to contract management/administration policy which supports the company's near and long term business strategies and objectives.
    • Investigate opportunities with the other Commercial groups to leverage common skills across the business and ensure Product Support Commercial is integrated with the Legal and Commercial groups.
    • Continually seek to remove non-value added work from business processes.


    • Previous experience with interpretation, drafting, and negotiation of contractual terms and conditions.
    • Financial analysis skills, enabling review and interpretation of complex financial data.
    • Solid understanding of Program/Contracts Management expertise and the ability to apply to business decision making
    • Strong interpersonal skills; including the ability to interact effectively with all organizational levels internally, and with customers and suppliers. Ability to develop strong and useable interpersonal relationships with other team members
    • Precision in oral and written communication.
    • Effective negotiation techniques.
    • A comprehensive understanding of domestic and international business practices.
    • A desire for leadership, both tactical and strategic.
    • Knowledge and experience in driving continuous improvement activities related to process and procedural domain.
    • Self-motivated/self-starting work ethic.
    • Positive attitude and disposition.
    • Focused on continually driving business improvements.
    • Must detest failure.


    • Bachelor degree in Business, Engineering or Law, or equivalent business experience.
    • Minimum 10 years of Government contracting or program management experience.
    • Competence in use and interpretation of SACC and or FAR and DFARS would be of benefit.
    • 5 to 8 years of staff and/or technical project/process management experience.


    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
    Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
