  • Project/Program Overview

    General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is growing their Calgary team and currently have new and exciting opportunities for Intermediate Systems Engineers in the Evolve-to-Open (EvO) program. The EvO program is a world class next-generation secure communications system that will deliver cutting edge Network, Bearer, Voice, Multimedia, System Management and Security capabilities for the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence (MoD).


    The team in Calgary is primarily focused on developing software and hardware products to enable tactical voice and data communications, sensor and device integration, and common application services. The Systems Engineering team comprises several system design teams focusing on solutions to deliver technical capabilities integrating the aforementioned products and their respective components. 


    • The responsibilities and range of activities will vary, but in general will include:
      Participate in an interdisciplinary integrated project team environment under the supervision of senior engineers and technical leads
    • Perform system requirements analysis
    • Perform system design and analysis functions based on customer needs
    • Define SAFe Capabilities that describe the work to be executed and the acceptance criteria required to complete the capability
    • Prepare and review system specifications, system design documents, interface design documents and sequence diagrams
    • Create and review system design information with hardware / software engineers, human factors / user experience specialists and security and safety experts responsible for implementing the system
    • Review test cases and results
    • Investigate system defects and propose solutions
    • Support the change management process as the system design evolves
    • Document the analysis, design and acceptance in accordance with development standards
    • Plan activities/tasks for each design iteration
    • Report progress against plans
    • Participate and/or lead customer-facing design meetings


    • Minimum 2 years in systems engineering or applicable course work focused on systems engineering
    • Experience in design of Voice & Data Communications Systems
    • Experience in Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
    • Model based design tools and modelling languages
    • Requirements Management using industry tools
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
    • Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills and take on ownership of work
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment

    Desirable Skills:

    • The following skills are not mandatory but highly desirable:
    • Model based design tool experience using PTC Integrity Modeler
    • Model based design using SysML modelling language
    • Requirements Management using DOORS
    • Experience in network design (routing, transport protocols, unicast/multicast)
    • Experience with Unified Communications Applications using SIP & XMPP
    • Familiar with Agile product development methods
    • Knowledgeable of SAFe framework and


    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, or applicable scientific discipline is required

    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
    Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
