  • Responsibilities

    The Senior Level Export Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring legal compliance with and administration of all applicable export regulations – including, but not limited to Canada’s Export Regulations, the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR) – by preparing export permit applications, managing US License Agreements, providing export advice to business units with respect to classification of General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada products as well as incoming parts/components and defense services. 


    Typical Duties

    • Ensures legal compliance and provides export administration and control within government rules and regulations, including preparation of appropriate export permit documents. 
    • Interfaces with internal customers, order administration, shipping and other functional areas to assist in the coordination and logistics of export activities.
    • Interfaces with external customers in the coordination and management of US licenses – specifically Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs).
    • Assists staff with activities related to export permits and TAAs in support of international business development activities, including supporting permit generation, and tracking of submitted export permits throughout the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) on-line system. 
    • Interfaces with internal customers in product export classification.
    • Consults regulations, procedures, and practices to determine appropriate action with regard to both product classification and exporting of goods.
    • Interfaces with internal customers with respect to the US import and export regulations.
    • Applies for and manages return of Carnet documents.
    • Presents technical information at internal milestone meetings to senior management.
    • Point of Contact and mentor for more junior Export Compliance employees.

    • Strong knowledge and understanding of Canadian Export Regulations.
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of Canadian Controlled Goods Regulations.
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of US Export Regulations, including but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
    • Good knowledge of world Geography.
    • May require expert level understanding of applicable government export regulations.


    Interfaces with:

    • Commercial Services.
    • Across a broad spectrum of the company, to include corporate, senior management, engineering, marketing, sales, administrators, security, legal, shipping, and others.
    • External customers.
    • Canadian Government Officials.



    • Travel may be required up to 20%.
    • Individual Contributor/Frequent Project Leader.
    • Consultative Specialist/Subject Matter Expert.
    • Supports vendor input in person and via conference calls.



    • University Degree in Law, Accounting, Business or Administration or equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum of 10 years of directly related experience is required.
    • Typically requires a minimum of 8+ years of related experience. At this level, post-graduate coursework may be desirable.


    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
    Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
