  • Project/Program Overview

    General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada currently has a requirement for a Software - Linux Engineer within our Airborne Systems Business Area. The incumbent will be part of the team developing the Aurora Block IV upgrade. 

    Responsibilities

    The responsibilities and range of activities will vary, but in general will include:

    • Create and configure Linux services (sysv and systemd)
    • Install and configure COTS Linux SW
    • Create and deploy automated installation packages (rpm)
    • Perform and provide input into software design using established patterns and architectures
    • Troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware, and networking issues
    • Provide Linux expertise in discussions surrounding system design and implementation options
    • Configure and maintain Linux security software (i.e. SELinux, Firewall)
    • Develop and maintain software requirements and software designs
    • Prepare and review software design documents
    • Prepare, review, and execute test plans and test procedures
    • Participate in an Agile Team
    • Documenting analysis, design, and test results in accordance with development standards
    • Perform testing of Linux functional and security capabilities
    • Some travel may be required to support internal and external customers

    Qualifications

    • 2-5 years of experience with software engineering, computer engineering, or a similar discipline
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision
    • Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills and take on ownership of work
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
    • Desire to participate in large scale military system design and development
    • Exposure to analysis, integration, and test processes and methodologies
    • Experience with any of the following is highly desirable:
      ◦ Rational ClearCase and ClearQuest
      ◦ DOORS
      ◦ Configuration of Windows Operating system and server
      ◦ Configuration of Linux Operating systems
    • Experience with configuring or installing network devices considered an asset
    • Experience with Virtual Machines considered an asset


    Education

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science/Applied Science or related technical/scientific degree

     

     

    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
    Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
