    Project/Program Overview

    The Global Mobility Specialist (“GMS”) is responsible for evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining global mobility programs and services aimed at supporting domestic and international extended business travel, assignments and relocation.

     

    The GMS acts as an advisor to management and employees providing cultural, immigration, tax, labour practices, and related GM legislation information.

     

    The GMS plays a key role as both a coordinator and facilitator ensuring that key stakeholders are involved in either the needs analysis or development of processes and/or policies, tools, assignments and/or relocations. In addition to coordinating key stakeholders internally, the GMS is the primary point of contact for all related service provider partners.

     

    In the day to day the GMS is responsible for facilitating all immigration, relocation services and tax requirements, and all other related activities.

    Responsibilities

    • Offers expertise and hands on assistance in the interpretation and application of policies, processes and programs.
    • Coordinates assignment and mobility related activities including assignment cost estimates, assignee documentation, departure and/or arrival support, identifying cultural or language training needs
    • Facilitates immigration status applications and employment authorization forms, and identifies and manages associated taxation and social security requirements
    • Acts as point of contact for HR, Program Management, the assignee, government agencies and third-party vendors providing immigration, relocation and mobility support
    • Oversees and coordinates tax support services for qualifying assignees
    • Works with Payroll and Finance to ensure proper processing of assignment benefits and allowances
    • Works collaboratively with Program Management to support key deployment initiatives; i.e., providing immigration and taxation support
    • Responds to bid and capture teams to provide pricing cost projection relating to assignment immigration and employee taxation and compliance framework solutions/options/issues
    • Documents processes, develops communications and delivers training to stakeholders
    • Acts as key resource for latest Global Mobility best practices, industry standards and related local jurisdiction requirements

    Qualifications

    • Advanced knowledge of expatriate tax implications, i.e., SOFA agreements, tax equalization/protection, tax treaties, shadow payroll, secondments, etc.
    • Advanced understanding of related corporate taxation elements such as permanent establishment, etc.
    • Sound understanding of international payroll elements
    • Hands-on knowledge of immigration processing and documentation requirements
    • Understanding of the different legislation affecting GM globally
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate at all levels within and outside the organization
    • Ability to develop strong, open and collaborative relationships
    • Strong research and analytical skills
    • Ability to prioritize competing demands and multitask in a very fast paced environment
    • Strong technical skills including a good understanding of HRMS’s, MS Office, expatriate management systems, financial systems, immigration case management and records management systems
    • Knowledge of other languages and international travel experience would be considered an asset

     

    Experience and Education

    • Minimum five years’ experience in a global mobility role managing a large number of assignees and travelers
    • Experience researching and processing immigration and tax requirements
    • Demonstrated ability to develop supporting communication artifact
    • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources or related field, or, equivalent education and experience

    Would consider a remote position 

     

     

    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
