    Project/Program Overview

    General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is looking for a System Integration Engineer to work with our Calgary team on maintaining the existing Bowman tactical communications system for the Ministry of Defence (MoD). 


    Our Calgary team is responsible for multiple key software and firmware products as part of this offering. We are responsible for the operating system and middleware to enable tactical voice and data communications, sensor and device integration, and common application services. The project includes all phases including System Design, Software Design, System Integration, and System Validation. The systems integration and verification and validation team will consist of a subset of the overall team. The main focus of the team is the integration of specific software components and services in the areas of communication, device integration, and common services for multiple third-party software applications.



    The responsibilities and range of activities will vary depending on experience, but in general will include:

    • Perform detailed design, implementation, and test activities in order to complete Sprint tasks
    • Share knowledge and skills with other development and test team members
    • Development of acceptance test cases and procedures that validate hardware, firmware, software, and system functionality
    • Review system, subsystem and product requirement specifications, interface control documents, design documents and use cases in order to develop test cases
    • Executing test cases in a lab environment; analyzing, interpreting and documenting results
    • Writing defect and test summaries and test reports to demonstrate progress and communicate this as required
    • Generation and maintenance of test scripts for automated testing 
    • Analysis and management of requirements mapping to test cases


    • Some understanding of test engineering, ideally with knowledge of agile and/or iterative development methods
    • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Demonstrate strong problem solving and an ability to conduct detail analysis leading to good conclusions
    • Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills, and takes pride and ownership of work
    • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision
    • Has a desire to learn, and ideally experience in; defining, developing and executing integration tests for communications and networking systems
    • Experience investigation and working collaboratively to resolve software defects
    • Experience with test engineering processes and tools
    • Knowledge and use of requirements writing tools and test writing tools, an asset
    • Familiarity with radios, voice/data networks and Internet Protocols (IP), an asset
    • Willing to develop knowledge and skills in automated test frameworks and implemented automated integration testing
    • An ability to adapt quickly


    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or applicable scientific discipline is required
    • Candidates with diplomas will be considered with adequate additional experience

    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
