    Project/Program Overview

    General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is delivering a comprehensive C4 (Command, Control, Communications and Computing) System that brings together a powerful, modular design with uncompromised engineering for ground combat platforms.     As a key member of the Engineering team, the Software Engineer will support various aspects of analysis, design, development, lab integration, vehicle integration and field trials. You will work collaboratively with Systems Engineering and Systems Integration on customer support matters and new features.


    The following software components will be supported:

    • Smart Display Operating System and Drivers
    • Smart Display / Laptop Updating Software
    • Software Management and Arbitration Utility
    • Alarm Service and Ribbon
    • Video Display Application
    • Time Services
    • Device and Sensor Services
    • Fault Management System
    • Battle Management Application
    • Network Services


    • Ongoing customer relationship management – trusted advisor for software support and new features
    • Assessment and correction of identified software defects
    • Prototype solutions to evaluate proposed system and software design and to de-risk the schedule
    • Maintain the high level and detailed design of each CSCI
    • Maintain the detailed software design of each service (design model, software requirements, software design documentation, etc.)
    • Maintain the software implementation of each CSCI
    • Maintain CSCI unit tests/scripts and applicable stubbed services and/or test clients
    • Provide necessary support to Systems Engineering and Systems Integration
    • Software support to Business Development demonstrations
    • All other duties as directed by the Software Engineering Lead


    • Experience writing software targeted for the Windows 7 operating system is desirable
    • Experience developing applications for multiple languages is an asset
    • Experience in evaluating, assessing, and reverse engineering existing software is desirable
    • Experience in writing Use Cases to describe software capabilities, as well as designing, documenting, and evaluating Interface Description Documents
    • Candidates interested and experienced in Test Driven Development and Automation are desired
    • Familiarity with common software development processes and tools, including:
    • Use of DOORS for requirements management
    • UML Modeling using Enterprise Architect or other tools
    • Configuration Management using Subversion or other tools
    • Automated software unit testing and continuous integration
    • Software defect tracking using Bugzilla or other tools
    • Experience in development with the following technologies would be desirable
    • Serial, Ethernet, and CANBus interfaces
    • Object Management Group (OMG) Data Distribution Service (DDS)
    • MIL-STD-6017 Variable Message Format and MIL-STD-2045-47001C (Connectionless Data Transfer)
    • Video Display and distribution techniques
    • Working knowledge of C#, C++, and/or Java programming languages
    • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Ability to work as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary cross


    • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering/Computer Science or related technical/engineering degree.


    • Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance. Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
