    Project/Program Overview

    We are looking for an Engineer on the Test Automation Team. Our team is responsible for the planning, development, integration, and support of test automation initiatives across all engineering projects within our Air & Naval Systems division. Our mandate is to work with programs to create or develop their test automation capability and provide a Centre of Excellence within the organization.

     

    The Test Automation Engineer will carry out various test automation and software engineering activities, including prototyping & tool evaluations, design & implementation of test framework capabilities, automated test development, integration & testing, and infrastructure development. The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team environment, with teammates as well as peers from other projects. They will get the opportunity to experience a challenging and diverse variety of tasks through the entire software development life cycle

     

     

    Responsibilities

    The responsibilities and range of activities may vary, but in general will include:

    • Participate and play a leadership role in team planning exercises, using tools like Jira and Confluence to track backlogs and manage information.
    • Evaluate and prototype test automation tools and make recommendations.
    • Design, implement, and integrate frameworks and middleware functionality.
    • Develop and integrate automated tests.
    • Build and maintain infrastructure to support test automation activities.
    • Document processes and best practices to support training initiatives.
    • Presentations and demonstrations to team members and other stakeholders.
    • Work collaboratively with team members to resolve issues and progress tasks.
    • Train and mentor team members in techniques, tools, and knowledge.

    Qualifications

    •  A minimum of 5 years’ related experience in software development or test engineering / QA
    • Disciplined approach to software engineering, including experience with requirement analysis, software design, integration, and testing practices;
    • Ability to analyze complex systems or issues, recommend options, and implement solutions
    • Enthusiastic contributor, willingness to learn new skills, and strong sense of ownership
    • Excellent communication and time management skills
    • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
    • Experience with automated testing and developing automated tests
    • Experience in Linux environments and expertise with Linux CLI, including shell scripting
    • Development with scripting languages such as Python
    • Advocate for test automation and software quality.

    Assets

    • Experience working in the design, development, or testing of large scale military software systems.
    • Experience with test automation frameworks such as Robot Framework.
    • Experience researching, learning, and deploying new tools.
    • Experience developing with programming languages such as C#, Java, C++, ADA.
    • Experience working with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, Docker, Git.
    • Experience working with simulation tools

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering (Software, Computer, Electrical), or applicable scientific discipline is required

    Other 

    • Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance. Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
