    Project/Program Overview

    General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada is seeking a highly skilled and motivated System Engineer who will directly contribute to key architectural and design decisions impacting the capabilities LCSS provides Canada’s Army in support of their domestic or international operations and deployments. The selected candidate will achieve this through close interactions with other General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada engineering teams as well as with DND, Army and industry partner stakeholders.

     

    The Canadian Army’s tactical network used within their vehicles and headquarters is called the Land Command Support System (LCSS). This network enables the command, control and communication which are essential capabilities for Canada’s Army. The LCSS is often referred to as a “System of Systems”, indicative of its breadth, complexity and the diversity of solutions incorporated. General Dynamics plays a key role in the architecture and design of the System as well as the integration and testing, on behalf of DND.

    Responsibilities

    The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Define and Document LCSS Capabilities in the form of Capability Descriptions and Scope Statements, Concept of Operations and Operational Use Cases based on the Vision of the Canadian Customer and the needs of the end user
    • Identify gaps and areas of potential improvement with existing LCSS Capability required to support the end user
    • Work with the DND and the Canadian Army to elicit requirements on LCSS Capabilities
    • Provide support, guidance and recommendations to the stakeholder community (which includes DND, the Canadian Army and other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs))
    • Provide guidance and support to the SoS level Integration and Test including review of test cases, resolution of test discrepancies and analysis of test results
    • Support and present at meetings with internal stakeholders as well as with the stakeholder community
    • Support the development and execution of engineering plans, process and schedules
    • Assume responsibility, ownership, and accountability for deliverables and work products
    • Assume accountability for the quality of deliverables and work products
    • Assume responsibility and accountability for meeting program commitments and achieving program milestones

    These responsibilities can be fulfilled by an applicant with or without a Canadian Military service record in accordance with the Required Skills & Experiences described in the sections below.

    Qualifications

    Required Skills and Experience for Applicants with a Canadian Military Service Record

    • Minimum 10 years of service in either the Canadian Army or Canadian Army Reserves
    • In depth knowledge of general Army operations
    • Specialization in Military Communications in an operational environment is a desirable asset
    • Knowledge and ability to identify and effectively communicate operational requirement, operational context and the operational use of a capability
    • Knowledge and ability to provide operational support and expertise in a lab and field environment to the stakeholder community
    • Demonstrated initiative and strong verbal and written communications skills
    • The ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision
    • Demonstrated capability of meeting commitments and delivering high quality work products

     

    Required Skills and Experience for Applicants without a Canadian Military Service Record

    • Minimum 8 years System Engineering or Systems Architecture experience
    • Experience in requirements development and system design
    • Experience and working knowledge of systems engineering tools including DOORS, Rational Team Concert (RTC) and UML/SysML
    • Experience in planning, estimating and scheduling
    • Demonstrated initiative and strong verbal and written communications skills
    • The ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision
    • Demonstrated capability of meeting commitments and delivering high quality work product

     

    Education for Applicants with a Canadian Military Service Record

    Proven operational experience and expertise gained while serving with the Canadian Army or Canadian Army Reserves.

    Education for Applicants without a Canadian Military Service Record

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or applicable scientific discipline is required.  

     

    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
    Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
