    Project/Program Overview

    General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada currently has a new opportunity for an experienced Software & Systems Engineer within our Airborne Systems Business Area. Working with the Aurora Ground Facilities team, you will play a key role in the team through software/system integration, testing and debugging while working closely with the customer, the end-user and subcontractors to define, debug and isolate issues. The position involves regular communication with all key stakeholders and customer representatives, providing updates and reporting both verbal and written. Excellent listening, writing skills, and strong technical competencies are essential.


    The Ground Facilities segment encompasses the development, installation, integration and maintenance of the Ground Facilities required to support in-service operation of the CP-140 aircraft. The main components of the Ground Facilities are the Operational Mission Simulator (OMS) and the Procedures Crew Trainer (PCT). Both the OMS and the PCT are being maintained to support the Block III CP-140 aircraft and are being upgraded to allow the proper training of aircrews for the Block IV CP-140 aircraft.

    The purpose of the OMS and the PCT is to allow individual crew members to learn how to use mission systems (sensors, weapons and communication) and allow part and complete crews to train as a team to accomplish specific mission tasks. They provide the CP-140 mission crew with the training facilities to learn, practice and enhance those skills, knowledge and attitudes that create an effective mission team. The OMS and PCT are installed across Canada at multiple sites and will require travelling.


    The responsibilities and range of activities may vary, but in general will include:

    • Integrating and testing locally-developed, subcontractor-developed and third party software in the OMS Systems Integration Lab (SIL)
    • Providing technical support during integration and qualification testing
    • Interacting and communicating with the customer, the end-user and the subcontractors to resolve issues
    • Updating technical documentation. This includes requirements, design, test procedures, software assemblies, version descriptions, test reports, technical notes
    • Interacting with company Software Configuration Management and Data Management teams
    • Interacting with company Integrated Logistics and Support and Quality Assurance teams
    • Delivering and testing new software releases at customer sites
    • Tracking software and hardware configurations at customer sites
    • Training customer and end-users on the use of new capabilities or changes to existing capabilities
    • Investigating local problem reports and field incident reports; performing root cause and trend analyses
    • Writing Field Service Bulletins and Field Change Orders
    • Performing any other aspects of software and systems engineering. This may include the definition and analysis of new requirements and specifications, design and development, debugging and code inspections
    • Presenting his/her work at design reviews or other types of peer reviews
    • Participating in the management and maintenance of the OMS SIL


    • Minimum 5 year software engineering experience
    • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio
    • Experience with the C++ language and Object-Oriented Software Engineering
    • Proficiency with IP networking, configuration and sockets
    • Knowledge of aeronautical buses and interfaces such as Mil-Std-1553, ARINC 429 and Synchro would be an asset
    • Knowledge of Real-time Systems would be an asset
    • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Detail oriented, organized and able to meet tight deadlines
    • Comfortable with debugging tools such as bus analyzers, Wireshark, digital multimeters, etc.
    • Desire to participate in large scale military system design and development
    • Desire to learn the functionality and use of military mission systems and aeronautical systems
    • Sound understanding of software engineering principles, software configuration management tools and processes including defect/version tracking
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows configuration would be an asset
    • Knowledge of PC architecture and configuration would be an asset
    • Knowledge of Linux would be an asset
    • Knowledge and use of a problem reporting tool would be an asset
    • Knowledge and use of a requirements management tool would be an asset
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Satisfactory knowledge of reading block diagrams, schematics and data sheets for components
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects to completion and within established deadlines


    Experience with any of the following tools are highly desirable:

    • Presagis STAGE and FlightSIM
    • Rational ClearCase and ClearQuest
    • DOORS
    • Microsoft Visio
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Microsoft SharePoint
    • Windows Scripting
    • Jira




    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or applicable scientific discipline is required.


    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
