    Project/Program Overview

    General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is staffing Firmware Engineers from junior to senior level for award of a new contract to deliver a world class Tactical Communication and Information System (TacCIS) to a new customer. Our Canadian team will be partnered to deploy a vehicle installed with field-proven TacCIS architecture and system components which is cost effective, modular and scalable to support different vehicle variant roles.The vehicle TacCIS provides the vehicle crew with intercom and radio voice services and is capable of transmitting high-speed Position Awareness (PA), Command & Control (C2) and sensor data on the move as a component of a larger Battalion-level TacCIS.


    The project will involve participation from System Design, Software and Platform Design, System Integration, and System Validation domain stakeholders. The project will be a multi-site development with activities spanning groups across General Dynamics Mission Systems-International.The firmware development team will be primarily focused on evolving and customizing existing Ethernet Local Area Network domain firmware to be applied to the customer requirements.


    Typical Duties

    • Assisting and supporting lead engineers and team members 
    • Performing some basic design and/or analysis functions based on requirements
    • Documenting the analysis, design and test in accordance with development standards
    • Participate in integrated team activities with System Engineering, Development and System Integration
    • Developing and performing tests and debug of code
    • Identifying defects, resolving issues and verification
    • Supporting and performing system level test and integration efforts
    • Participating in code reviews
    • All other duties as required


    Required Skills & Experience

    • Able to apply problem solving skills to daily activities
    • Experience developing system software
    • Experience in programming in C/C++
    • Disciplined approach to software engineering with knowledge of agile development methods 
    • Excellent communication and time management skills
    • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
    • Enthusiastic contributor, willingness to learn new skills and takes on ownership of work

    Skills & Experience Nice to Have

    • Experience with DevOps tools such as IBM Jazz Rational Team Concert for Requirements Management, Quality Management, and Configuration/Change Management
    • Experience with scripting languages such as bash, powershell
    • Experience with data model generation, database schemas, relational models, object models, data access layers, and CRUD operations
    • Experience with policy-based/highly configurable software
    • Experience with distributed database models
    • Experience with pub/sub and request/response messaging patterns
    • Experience with multimedia technologies such as SIP, RTP, and RTCP
    • Experience with transport layer technologies such as TCP/IP and UDP
    • Experience with networking technologies such as IPv4, IPv6, VLANs, 802.3, Routing Protocols (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP4), 802.1x, DSCP, and DHCP
    • Experience with network device management technologies such as SNMP and NETCONF.
    • Experience with cross-platform development


    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, or applicable scientific discipline is required

    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
