    Project/Program Overview

    General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is staffing for a Software Engineer in Calgary with experience in C# and Windows 7, for a new contract to deliver a world class Tactical Communication and Information System (TacCIS) to a new customer. Our Canadian teams will design, integrate, manufacture, verify, deliver, install and support the TacCIS System. The TacCIS Project will integrate proven GDMS products along with customer supplied Radios and Encryption equipment to form a modern tactical vehicle CIS solution.

    The TacCIS Software Team will work collaboratively with the System Engineering team on evaluating, selecting, modifying, and integrating existing software solutions into the system architecture, as well as designing, implementing, and testing new solutions for components, services, and GUIs that do not exist. The following are some of the Computer Software Configuration Items (CSCIs) in the system that the software team will provide or integrate with; Smart Display Operating System, Drivers and Software, Tactical Integration Framework, Time Services and Network Services.

    Responsibilities

    Typical Duties:

    • Assess applicable existing components and services for reuse based on established system requirements & design
    • Establish appropriate performance requirements and quality attributes that will meet the system requirements and measure the ongoing performance of services and components during implementation
    • Prototype solutions to evaluate proposed system and software design and to de-risk the schedule
    • Create or document the high level and detailed design of each CSCI and service (design model, software requirements, software design documentation, etc.)
    • Create or update the software implementation of each CSCI including the creation or updating of CSCI unit tests/scripts and applicable stubbed services and/or test clients
    • Provide necessary support to System Engineering and System Integration
    • Assessment and correction of identified software defects
    • All other duties as directed by the Software Engineering Lead

    Qualifications

    Required Skills & Experience

    • Multiple roles are available, candidates will be considered for roles based on their experience and interests
    • Experience writing software targeted for the Windows 7 operating system is desirable
    • Experience with developing applications for multiple languages is an asset
    • Experience in evaluating, assessing, and reverse engineering existing GD software, COTS software, and Open Source software is desirable
    • Experience in writing Use Cases to describe software capabilities, as well as designing, documenting, and evaluating Interface Description Documents
    • Candidates interested and experienced in Test Driven Development and Automation are desired
    • Familiarity with common software development processes and tools, including:
    • Use of DOORS for requirements management
    • UML Modeling using Enterprise Architect or other tools
    • Configuration Management using Subversion or other tools
    • Automated software unit testing and continuous integration
    • Software defect tracking using Bugzilla or other tools

     

    Experience in development with the following technologies would be desirable but not mandatory:

    • Serial, Ethernet, and CANBus interfaces
    • Object Management Group (OMG) Data Distribution Service (DDS)
    • MIL-STD-6017 Variable Message Format and MIL-STD-2045-47001C (Connectionless Data Transfer)
    • Video Display and distribution techniques
    • Working knowledge of C#, C++, and/or Java programming languages
    • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Ability to work as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary cross site team

     

    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering/Computer Science or related technical/scientific degree

     

    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
