    Project/Program Overview

    An excellent opportunity for a software developer to join a team of engineers working on a Military Communications System. The purpose of this position is to research, plan, design, and deliver a test automation framework to automate testing of software and firmware products that are under development by the team. The developers and testers will use the framework to create the test automation scripts.The successful candidate will work with the developers and testers to oversee the rollout of the end to end test automation solution.

     

    Some test scripts have been written by the test team using Robot Framework and Python. These tests are manually run by the test team. The successful candidate will determine how the existing scripts can be leveraged in the test automation system, expand on the limited set of automation testing, and build the knowledge and skill base of the existing testing team. The successful candidate will work towards creating an automated testing environment that can be tied into our build servers, run new builds, and provide current regular reports on the health of the system.

     

    In addition to the more generic developer skill sets such as testing and writing test automation scripts, the candidate will possess a repertoire of skills related to the setup and roll out of a test automation framework.

    Responsibilities

    Typical Duties

     

    The responsibilities and range of activities will vary, but in general include:

    • Work with the development and test teams to recommend a test automation framework for the team
    • Research and roll out the test automation solution for software and firmware products
    • Integrate the test automation system with the nightly build system
    • Train the development and test team to write the test automation scripts
    • Work with firmware and test engineers to identify defects, resolve issues, and perform verification activities
    • Document the analysis and design of the test automation system
    • Create the User Guide for the test automation system.
    • Participate in technical reviews, both as a reviewer and author
    • Maintain the code base for the test automation system

    Qualifications

    Required Skills & Experience

    • Minimum 5 years of experience
    • Experience with test automation systems
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision

    Assets

    • Experience in the setup up of test automation systems or continuously integrated systems
    • Experience working in both Linux and Windows development environments
    • Experience in scripting languages such as Python
    • Experience using Robot Framework
    • Experience in Virtualization technologies
    • Experience working with C++, C#, or other Object Oriented Languages

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or applicable scientific discipline is required
    • Candidates with diplomas will be considered with adequate additional experience

     

    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
    Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
