  • Project/Program Overview

    The Manufacturing Engineering (ME) Department is primarily responsible for the facilities, methods, and assembly instructions for the Assembly sections of Manufacturing Operations. The purpose of the facilities, methods and instructions is to enable the efficient and consistent assembly of products to the relevant drawing and specification requirements. The ME Department provides support for the company's goals in Total Quality Management (TQM), Concurrent Engineering (CE) and Design for Manufacturing Assembly (DFMA).

    Responsibilities

    • Develops economical assembly methods and processes that define the sequence of operations includ­ing inspection points; plans and compiles Assembly Methods Instructions (AMI) that direct the sequence of operations and the method for assembly of circuit cards, cables, wiring harnesses, wired assemblies and mechanical assemblies; applies standard times to all operational steps; conducts detailed verification for each new AMI issued by following it through a full production cycle; prepares manufacturing flow plans; prepares Rework Travellers; monitors and evaluates production methods, processes, specifications, new designs, etc.; works with production personnel to revise and correct AMI etc. as required.
    • Largely involved in recurring support activities, and the implementation of change traffic in assembly instructions and process routings.
    • Works with Manufacturing Engineering (ME) to define and assist in the design of assembly tooling, jigs and fixtures.
    • Supports and assists the Assembly staff in procurement of tooling and provides initial investigation into and resolution of suspect process issues.
    • Prepares and develops assembly methodology and product flow data for MRP Bill of Material and Process and Routing System modules.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    • Equivalent to an Ontario secondary School graduation plus further 3 full-time years of formal education necessary to acquire mechanical, drafting or manufacturing engineering technology diploma.
    • Requires over 2 years up to and including 3 years of related experience including document management, technical writing, tool and fixture design and desktop publishing.

    Physical Effort

    Required to sit extensively (>60%) in work station. Continuous hand/finger movement for keyboarding and mousing. Works (walking/standing) in assembly production area as required.

     

    Sensory Effort

    Considerable visual attention and concentration required for moderate periods of time to plan and visualize assembly methods plans/processes.

     

    Working Environment

    General office environment. Assembly production area is clean. Constant interruptions.

     

     

    Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
    Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
