Project/Program Overview

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is staffing for an exciting opportunity to deliver a world class secure next-generation communications system for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the United Kingdom. General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is working in partnership with General Dynamics Mission Systems - United Kingdom to design, develop, and deliver an exceptional Command, Control, Communications, Computing and Intelligence (C4I) system based on open architecture and industry standard principles.


Our Calgary team is developing key hardware and embedded firmware products as part of this offering, which will provide the foundation to enable tactical voice and data communications, sensor and device integration, and open architectural capabilities. Firmware will be developed for General Dynamics hardware products running Linux. The project includes all phases including System Design, Software and Hardware Design, System Integration, and System Validation. The project is a multi-site development with activities spanning several product development groups in Calgary and across the General Dynamics Mission Systems International business areas.


The product team consists of multi-disciplined development teams, each focusing on a specific set of product capabilities and services in the areas of communication, device integration, and common services for multiple applications. Firmware and integration development teams follow Agile development practices for software; hardware development follows the General Dynamics Engineering Development Framework with interdependencies on agile Scrum teams. These teams operate within a larger Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®) organization while the hardware is developed in parallel. The successful candidate will facilitate processes to integrate engineering development framework and the Scaled Agile Framework work flow management toolset.



Typical Duties:


The Engineering Project Coordinator facilitates the removal of issues and ensures that the team adheres to its defined processes. They will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Develops the process artifacts as a part of the leadership team
  • Develop feature and work item descriptions including acceptance criteria and definition of done in adherence with quality assurance criteria
  • Work closely with quality assurance and engineering to ensure high quality of deliveries
  • Collection of reporting measures to support tracking of quality and productivity trends
  • Enable the teams to follow the processes and pursue continuous improvement in their practices


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Disciplined approach to engineering and program management with knowledge of agile development methods.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills

Skills & Experience – Nice to Have:

  • Previous experience in embedded product development
  • Previous experience with Rational Team Concert
  • Previous experience in program, process, quality, or product lead role
  • Previous experience as a Scrum Master or Product Owner on an Agile team
  • Professional Scrum Master (PSM) or Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) certification
  • Previous experience, certification, or knowledge of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe 4.0)


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Management or equivalent discipline is required


Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
