Project/Program Overview

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is staffing for an exciting opportunity to deliver a world class secure next-generation communications system for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the United Kingdom. General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is working in partnership with General Dynamics Mission Systems - United Kingdom to design, develop, and deliver an exceptional Command, Control, Communications, Computing and Intelligence (C4I) system based on open architecture and industry standard principles.
General Dynamics Calgary is developing a key software product as part of this offering that provides the operating system and middleware to enable tactical voice and data communications, sensor and device integration, and common application services. Software will be developed for Windows 10 laptops, tablets and for General Dynamics developed hardware products running Linux. The project includes all phases including System Design, Software and Hardware Design, System Integration, and System Validation. The project will be a multi-site development with activities spanning several product development groups in Calgary and across the General Dynamics Mission Systems International business area.
The systems integration and verification and validation (SI V&V, or SI) team will consist of several smaller integration teams, each focusing on integration a specific set of software components and services in the areas of communication, device integration, and common services for multiple third-party software applications. Systems integration teams will work closely with the software development teams and will follow the Scrum framework for software development. As a member of a Scrum team, the successful candidates will work together to design, implement, and test software features for the product.



The responsibilities and range of activities will vary depending on experience, but in general will include:

  • Work cooperatively within a Scrum team or with multiple Scrum teams to take on new integration test tasks
  • Perform detailed design, implementation, and test activities in order to complete Sprint tasks
  • Share knowledge and skills with other Scrum (development and test) team members
  • Development of acceptance test cases and procedures that validate hardware, firmware, software, and system functionality
  • Ability to review system, subsystem and product requirement specifications, interface control documents, design documents and use cases in order to develop test cases
  • Executing test cases in a lab environment; analyzing, interpreting and documenting results
  • Writing defect and test summaries and test reports to demonstrate progress and communicate this as required
  • Some generation and maintenance of test scripts for automated testing
  • Analysis and management of requirements mapping to test cases


Required Skills & Experience

  • Some understanding of test engineering, ideally with knowledge of SAFe agile and/or iterative development methods
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrate strong problem solving and an ability to conduct detail analysis leading to good conclusions
  • Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills, and takes pride and ownership of work
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision
  • Has a desire to learn, and ideally experience in; defining, developing and executing integration tests for communications and networking systems.
  • Experience investigation and working collaboratively to resolve software defects
  • Experience with test engineering processes and tools
  • Knowledge and use of requirements writing tools and test writing tools, an asset
  • Familiarity with radios, voice/data networks and Internet Protocols (IP), an asset
  • Willing to develop knowledge and skills in automated test frameworks and implemented automated integration testing
  • An ability to adapt quickly


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or applicable scientific discipline is required
  • Candidates with diplomas will be considered with adequate additional experience


Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
