Project/Program Overview

General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is growing their Calgary team and currently have new opportunities for System Engineers, P3 for our EvO program. We are staffing for an existing program to deliver a world class next-generation secure communications system for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the United Kingdom. General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is working in partnership with General Dynamics Mission Systems - United Kingdom to design, develop, and deliver an exceptional Command, Control, Communications, Computing and Intelligence (C4I) system based on open architecture and industry standard principles. Our Calgary team is developing key software and hardware products as part of this offering to enable tactical voice and data communications, sensor and device integration, and common application services.


The program includes system design, software and hardware design, system integration, and system validation. The project will be a multi-site development with activities spanning several product development groups in Calgary and across the General Dynamics Mission Systems International business area. The system engineering team consists of several design teams, each focusing on a specific set of software or hardware components and services. This program is being delivered using a Scaled Agile Framework organization. The successful candidate will be system engineer within an Agile Release Train that has been established to define and develop the system solution.


Typical Duties:

  • The responsibilities and range of activities will vary, but in general will include:
  • Participate in an interdisciplinary integrated project team environment under the supervision of more senior engineers and leads
  • Perform system requirements analysis
  • Perform system design and/or analysis functions based on requirements
  • Define SAFe Features that describe the work to be executed.
  • Prepare and review system specifications, system design documents, and interface design documents
  • Provide design information to hardware and software engineers implementing the system
  • Prepare and review test plans, procedures and results
  • Investigate defects and propose solutions
  • Support the change management process as the system design evolves
  • Document the analysis, design and test in accordance with development standards
  • Plan activities/tasks for each design iteration
  • Report progress against plans


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Experience is required in a number of the following areas:
  • 4+ years of experience in systems engineering or similar discipline 
  • Disciplined approach to system engineering with knowledge of the full system life cycle
  • Experience with model based design tools (PTC Integrity Modeler in particular) and SysML
  • DOORS Requirements Management
  • Rational Team Concert
  • Tactical Communications and Networking Systems
  • Information Management Systems
  • Voice and Multimedia
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
  • Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills and take on ownership of work
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision
  • Experience with Agile product development methods



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, or applicable scientific discipline is required


Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance
